Dr. Sandeep Rao MD MBA CWSP is triple board certified in Vascular & Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Radiology and Wound Care.
Education . Dr. Rao received his medical degree from the Texas Tech University of Health Sciences Center. He initially started his residency training at Harvard Medical School/Beth Israel Deaconess with the intention of becoming a surgeon. After two years of surgery training focused in Vascular Surgery, he switched to Interventional Radiology after realizing the field provides the most minimally invasive alternatives to surgery. He continued his radiology residency training at The Ohio State University. Dr. Rao furthered his education by specializing in Vascular & Interventional Radiology through Fellowship at John Hopkins University. He currently has active medical licenses in nine states with privileges at multiple hospitals.
Experience . A practicing physician for over 20 years, Dr. Rao is versatile in his knowledge & expertise. He has given research presentations on novel pain procedures, pediatric interventions and kidney and liver disease procedures at international medical conferences. He has authored chapters on Endovascular Robotics and Virtual IR training tools in the Vascular Imaging and Intervention textbook. He has pioneered procedures in endovascular robotics, having performed many first-in-man procedures using remote vascular robotic instruments.
His area of expertise is in embolization (uterine fibroid embolization/UFE; prostate artery embolization/PAE; musculoskeletal embolizations for pain) and treatment of peripheral arterial disease and neuropathy with pain and vascular interventions.
Dr. Rao is active in the Outpatient Endovascular & Interventional Society (OEIS), helping develop the educational curriculum for residents, fellows and early-career physicians. He currently hosts the weekly Medical Hackers program on news radio KTSM AM 690, discussing innovative medical technologies and current healthcare news.
